# Connect Claude or ChatGPT to CRMown (MCP)

_Integrations_

Use CRMown from your AI assistant. Claude, ChatGPT and other apps that support MCP (the Model Context Protocol) can search and update your CRM as you — contacts, companies, deals, tasks, meetings and the knowledge base — with your permissions and only the records you can see.

## Steps
1. In CRMown: Settings → Integrations → Connected apps. Copy the connector URL shown there.
2. In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, and click Connect. (ChatGPT and other MCP apps have a similar "add connector / MCP server" option.)
3. A CRMown page opens. Sign in if asked, check the account and workspace shown, and choose what the app may do: always read; tick "Create and update…" to also let it make changes. Click Allow.
4. Back in your AI app, ask things like "Which deals close this month?", "Summarize my last meeting with Dana", or "Add a follow-up task for Acme next Tuesday".
5. To disconnect, go back to Settings → Integrations → Connected apps and click Disconnect. Owners and admins see every app connected in the workspace.

## Tips
- It acts as you: the same role permissions and the same record visibility (owned / brokerage modes) as in CRMown. It can never delete records, send emails or texts, or change billing, users or automations.
- Email synced from Gmail is never shared with connected apps — they see that a message happened (channel, direction, time), not its subject or text. The same applies to LinkedIn data.
- Changes it makes are logged in the activity feed with the app's name (e.g. "Note added via Claude"), and fire the same webhooks and automations as changes in CRMown.
- A read-only connection is possible: untick "Create and update…" when you approve.
- Signing out everywhere, resetting your password or being deactivated disconnects every app you connected.
- MCP use does not count against your CRMown AI usage — the AI runs in your own Claude or ChatGPT account. API rate limits per plan apply.
- Record contents (notes, names, inbound messages) are treated as data: CRMown tells the assistant not to follow instructions found inside them.

## Troubleshooting
- **The app says it can't make changes** — The connection was approved read-only. Fix: Disconnect it in Settings → Integrations → Connected apps, then connect again and tick "Create and update…".
- **"Your CRMown role does not allow this"** — Your role can't do that in CRMown either (for example a Viewer creating deals). Fix: Ask an owner or admin to change your role, or do it with an account that can.
- **The connection stopped working** — You signed out everywhere, changed your password, were deactivated, or the app was disconnected. Fix: Connect it again from your AI app.
- **"Finish the connection in the same browser you started it in"** — The approval page was opened in a different browser or device from the one the AI app opened. Fix: Start the connection again and approve it in the window that opens.

## Plans
Available on every plan. Owners and admins can see and disconnect every connected app in the workspace.
