# Tracking Website Clicks & Purchases Per Contact

_Lead Generation_

Tie a contact's website visits and purchases to their record so you can see who clicked your site and who bought. Everything stitches on the contact's email or an opaque contact id (?c=).

## Steps
1. Install the CRMown tracking snippet on your website: Tools → Lead Generation → Website (the Website Capture page, /dashboard/leadgen/visitors) → open the Tracking Pixel card and copy the snippet into your site’s <head>.
2. On a contact's page click "Copy tracked link" and paste it into a LinkedIn message, email, or text — when they click, the visit attributes to that contact (and future visits via a cookie).
3. Connect Stripe (Settings → Integrations) so purchases made with the contact's email show as revenue on their record.

## Tips
- Email is the join key: purchases match a contact by email, so add the person's email to capture purchase attribution. Clicks work without an email via the ?c= id.
- When you text through CRMown's SMS, links are AUTOMATICALLY rewritten into short tracked links tied to the contact — just paste a normal URL. Use the "Copy tracked link" button when sending from your personal phone or LinkedIn.
- Reverse-IP visitor identification reveals the visiting COMPANY, not the individual — use a tracked link or a known email to identify the person.
- Filter contacts by engagement: in Segments and Smart Views you can add Email Opens, Link Clicks, or Website Visits as conditions (e.g. "Website Visits has any" for everyone who visited). These count live from tracking — Segments also support exact thresholds (opens > 5).

## Example
You reply to a lead on LinkedIn, add them as a contact with their email, copy their tracked link into the chat, and later see their site visit on the timeline and their purchase once they buy with that email.

## Troubleshooting
- **The Lead Generation dashboard shows more New Leads than I have contacts** — Deleted/trashed contacts (e.g. an import you sent to Trash) were being counted in the metrics. Fix: Fixed — the dashboard now excludes trashed contacts, so New Leads and Deals Created match your live contact count.
