# Tracking Link Clicks in Texts (SMS)

_Messaging & SMS_

Any web link you text a contact is automatically tracked, so you can see exactly who clicked and when.

## Steps
1. Just include a normal link in your SMS (e.g. https://yoursite.com/offer) and send it — no setup needed.
2. CRMown automatically shortens it to a tracking link before it goes out.
3. When the contact taps it, they go straight to your page and the click is logged.
4. See the click on the contact's Timeline, and in their engagement/intent signals.

## Tips
- Tracking is tied to the link code, not the phone number — so it works even if you send from a different or rotating number.
- Same automatic tracking applies to one-to-one messages on WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X — paste a link in a DM and clicks are traced to that contact. (Public feed posts keep the raw URL so the link-preview card still shows.)
- Each text goes to one person, so a click is unambiguously that contact (higher confidence than email).
- A "link clicked" event can trigger automations — e.g. auto-create a follow-up task or start a sequence.
- Works the same in email; email also tracks opens via a pixel (SMS has no open tracking — only clicks).

## Example
A realtor blasts a new-listing text to 40 leads: "New 3BR just hit the market — see photos: <link>". By afternoon the contact timeline shows 12 of them tapped through. She calls those 12 first — they're the warm ones — instead of dialing all 40 blind.

## Troubleshooting
- **I don't see any click on the contact** — The link was delivered but the contact hasn't tapped it — delivered is not the same as clicked. Clicks only log on an actual tap. Fix: Give it time, or check the contact Timeline later. If you sent a plain text with no link, there is nothing to track — only links are tracked.
- **The text shows a crmown.io/... link instead of my own domain** — That's the tracking redirect — CRMown shortens your link so it can record the click, then forwards instantly to your real page. Fix: Nothing to fix; the recipient still lands on your page. To use a short branded link (e.g. lnk.yourbrand.com), ask your admin to set up a custom tracking domain.
