NFC Tap-to-Share Contacts
Use the NFC chip in your phone to swap contact info with another person's phone (or a programmable NFC card / sticker) — no business cards, no QR-code dance, no app required on their end. Works on most modern Android phones and iPhone XS or newer.
Steps
- More > NFC > Share to write your CRMown contact-card payload to the NFC tag (one-time setup if using a physical card/sticker; or live-broadcast if using phone-to-phone).
- When meeting someone, tap your phone (or your NFC card) against their unlocked phone — they get a notification to view your contact in their default contacts app.
- More > NFC > Receive opens the listener — tap their phone or NFC card against yours to import their info into a new CRMown contact draft.
- Imported contacts open as an editable draft so you can add tags, source, and any quick notes before saving.
Good to know
- iPhone XS and newer support NFC reading natively in iOS 14+. Older iPhones can only write tags via apps like NFC Tools.
- Physical NFC business cards (PVC or wood) are a one-time write — you can share infinitely. Re-write the card any time your title or phone number changes.
- NFC range is ~2-4 cm — the phones literally have to touch for the swap to fire. If nothing happens, push them closer and hold for 1-2 seconds.
Example: A founder at a conference tucks a wood NFC card into the back of her phone case. Every booth she visits, she taps the card on the prospect's iPhone — they get her contact card on the lock screen in 1 second. By the end of day 2 she has 47 fresh contacts captured to CRMown without typing a single name, all already tagged "conference-2026".
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when I tap the phones together
NFC is off (Android), the receiving phone is locked (iOS requires the phone to be unlocked for tag reads to surface a notification), or the phones aren't close enough.
Fix: Android: Settings > Connected devices > NFC > on. iOS: just unlock the phone — there's no NFC toggle. Hold phones back-to-back with the top halves touching for at least 2 seconds.
Contact import drops fields (no email, no phone)
The sender's NFC tag was written with limited fields, or their phone's contact-share schema doesn't include those fields by default.
Fix: Edit the imported draft to add the missing fields manually, or ask them to email-introduce themselves so you have a full record.
Plans
NFC is free on all plans. No backend gating.
