Setup Assistant Inside a Sandbox
Sandbox-aware end-to-end (per delta decision I). Running the Setup Assistant while attached to a sandbox lands every applied configuration in the sandbox org, never the parent. Combined with the standard sandbox diff/promote workflow, this gives you a safe way to test a new configuration package against cloned data before promoting selected items to production.
Steps
- Enter a sandbox via Enterprise > Sandbox > Enter.
- Settings > Setup Assistant > Start setup. The route uses req.effectiveOrgId, which the sandbox-context middleware sets to the sandbox org for the duration of the session.
- Run the interview, review the recommendation, apply.
- Switch back to the parent org. Enterprise > Sandbox > [your sandbox] > View Diff lists every configuration the apply created.
Good to know
- Email interception still applies: sample contacts created by the assistant in a sandbox cannot send real email. The interception log at Enterprise > Sandbox > [id] > Intercepted Emails shows what would have gone out.
- AI tokens for the interview + recommendation are billed to the parent org per delta decision F (sandbox AI usage charges parent). Setup-assistant runs are typically 2-5 interview turns + 1 recommendation generation, ~15-30K input tokens + 4K output total.
