Duplicating a Site & Republishing It Correctly
A duplicated site is an independent copy with NO custom domain attached. To make the copy live on your domain you must move the domain onto it and publish — in the right order — or the domain shows "Not Found."
Steps
- Duplicate vs Revision: when you click Duplicate you pick how the copy is made. "Full Duplicate" creates an independent site named "(Copy)" and keeps every page URL exactly the same (/about stays /about) — use it to spin off a separate site. "Revision" creates a working copy named "(Revision)" and suffixes page URLs (/about becomes /about-0) so it can be published alongside the original without the URLs clashing.
- What carries over: both modes copy every page plus its Page Title, meta description, canonical URL, social sharing image (ogImage), favicon, and custom CSS/JS. What is intentionally NOT copied: the custom domain. A duplicate is always created as a draft with no domain attached, because a domain can only point at one site at a time.
- To make the copy live on the same domain the original used: open the copy, go to its domain/settings, and set the custom domain there. Attaching the domain to the copy automatically detaches it from the original (a custom domain is unique — only one site can hold it). Then click Publish on the copy.
- Why order matters: Publish is what writes the live site to its hosting path, and that path is keyed to the custom domain. If you disconnect a domain from the original and never attach + publish another site, the domain serves nothing and shows "Not Found." So the rule is: set the domain on the site you want live, THEN publish that site.
- Do NOT change your DNS. The CNAME you set up once (pointing your domain at CRMown) stays the same for the original and the copy — moving the domain between sites happens inside CRMown, not at your DNS provider. Republishing also purges the CDN cache, so hard-refresh or use an incognito window to see the change.
Good to know
- One domain, one live site. If you want to keep the original live while you test, use "Revision" (suffixed URLs) and preview the copy before moving the domain over.
- After republishing, hard-refresh (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+R) or open incognito — the CDN caches the previous version for a short time.
- Publishing the duplicate also writes the SEO/title/favicon fields it copied, so your meta tags and favicon come across as long as you published the copy (not the empty original).
Example: A team duplicates their live marketing site to test a new homepage, publishes the copy, and the domain shows "Not Found" — because the domain had been disconnected from the original and never attached to the copy. They open the copy, set its custom domain (which auto-detaches it from the original), and click Publish; the site is live again in under a minute with zero DNS changes.
Troubleshooting
After duplicating and publishing, my domain shows "Not Found"
The custom domain was disconnected from the original and never attached to the published copy, so no published site claims the domain.
Fix: Open the copy you want live, set its custom domain, then click Publish. Only one site can hold the domain at a time, and no DNS change is needed.
I can't add the same domain to two sites
A custom domain is unique and can only be attached to one site.
Fix: Attaching the domain to the new site automatically removes it from the old one. Confirm the correct site holds it, then publish that site.
The copy published but the domain still shows old content or the original
Either the CDN is still caching the old version, or you published the site that does NOT hold the domain.
Fix: Confirm the published site is the one with the custom domain attached, then hard-refresh or use incognito to bypass the CDN cache.
The duplicated pages show two headers or two footers
The page carries its own header/footer includes (from an imported template) AND CRMown's shared header/footer is also applied.
Fix: In the page editor, remove the page's own header/footer includes (or turn off the shared header/footer for that page), then republish.
