QR Codes — Trackable Dynamic Links
Web Studio > QR Codes generates CRMown-branded, trackable QR codes. Every code is saved with a creator and a permanent short link (crmown.io/api/qr/{shortId}) — the printed/downloaded code encodes that short link, never the raw target, so every scan is logged. Scans show total count, device split (mobile/desktop/tablet), and top countries over your selected date-range window. The target URL is editable after the code is generated (dynamic QR) — repoint a printed code to a new page without reprinting it.
Steps
- Go to Web Studio > QR Codes tab.
- Enter a Label (optional, for your own reference) and the target URL, then click Generate — this saves the QR code and creates its short link.
- The list shows each code's scan count, creator, and creation date. Click Edit to change the target URL at any time (the short link and printed code stay the same — the redirect just points somewhere new).
- Click Download to get a PNG of the trackable short-link QR (print this, not a raw-URL code from elsewhere, or scans won't be tracked).
- Expand a code's analytics row to see scans over the current date-range window (Today / 7 / 30 / 90 days / 1 Year — same selector as the rest of Web Studio), device breakdown, and top scan countries.
Good to know
- Because the target is editable, print a QR code once (business card, flyer, storefront sign) and repoint it as often as needed — the physical code never has to change.
- The scan counter and analytics only track scans of the CRMown short link. If you download a plain (non-CRMown) QR of the raw URL some other way, those scans are invisible to CRMown.
- Analytics respect the same date-range selector as the rest of the Web Studio tab (Today/7/30/90 Days/1 Year) — switch the range at the top of the page to widen or narrow the per-code scan window.
Example: A retailer prints a QR code on in-store signage pointing at this month's promo landing page. Scans show most traffic is mobile between 11am-2pm. Next month they edit the same QR's target to point at the new promo page — the sign on the wall doesn't need to be reprinted, and the scan history keeps accumulating on the same code.
Troubleshooting
Scan count stays at 0 even though the code has been scanned
The printed/shared code was generated from the raw target URL (e.g. copy-pasted into an external QR generator) instead of downloaded from the QR Codes tab.
Fix: Always use the Download button on the saved QR code — it encodes the CRMown short link (/api/qr/{shortId}), which is what records the scan.
